Congratulations to our Class of 2024!
In a historically competitive year this was our best year on record.
More 2024 testimonials will be posted soon.
As someone whose primary focus is STEM, writing essays isn't my strong suit, and the dozens of college essays I had to write initially seemed like an almost impossible task. However, over the course of several months of working with Saul, I'm incredibly proud of my essays, and I believe they vividly portray my values and character. Furthermore, I truly believe his essay timelines and his insightful planning on how I should distribute my workload made these past few months far less stressful for me compared to my peers, even though I had 15+ colleges on my list. Finally, I was pleasantly surprised at how much he knew about things like my school's profile and my extracurriculars—it made his advice far more personalized. Overall, I had an amazing experience and will definitely recommend him to my younger sister!
—JL, 2024, accepted to MIT, Stanford, Yale |
Saul has been very supportive throughout the entire college application process, from his fast email replies to his suggestions on summer activities, my art portfolio, and more. I'm glad he helped me craft a college list I was very satisfied with, as well as essays I could be confident and proud of. His writing feedback was always constructive and encouraged me to incorporate as much of my authentic self as possible. His deadlines kept me at a manageable pace, so I didn't need to worry about being overwhelmed during my senior year. I'm incredibly grateful for his dedication and care.

And see what past students are saying
“I had an incredible experience with Saul! With his pacing, I never felt overwhelmed by the amount of writing I had to do at a time or stressed that I wouldn’t meet a deadline. At the same time, Saul’s essay edits were very insightful. He was very encouraging and never made me feel embarrassed about my first drafts. Saul’s comments pushed me to stay true and build upon on my own ideas while helping me provide what colleges want out of specific prompts. Additionally, he happily answered all of the hundreds of questions I asked him inside and outside of meetings. I genuinely appreciate everything Saul has done!”
— FB, MIT |
I truly had a wonderful time working with Saul. His support and guidance were instrumental in helping me stay on top of my tasks and I genuinely appreciated his efforts. It was evident that he cared about my success and was always willing to go above and beyond to help me achieve my goals. I will always look back on our time together with fondness and appreciation.
— PZ, Stanford |
"Saul was extremely supportive and valuable to me for the entire college application process. His honesty and advice in the brainstorming process was incredibly useful as he did not sugarcoat his thoughts and ensured all my essays were ones I was proud to submit. I also really appreciated how Saul made sure I stayed on track with deadlines while striving for the highest quality as it allowed me to finish my applications well before the deadlines. I am so grateful for Saul's patience and support throughout the entire process - he was always open to helping me with anything, and it truly eased a lot of my stress."
— JW, MIT “Saul has been incredibly helpful throughout the college application process. With his guidance, it wasn’t only easy, but surprisingly enjoyable writing the many initially daunting essays. Saul remained a very supportive mentor as he nurtured my unique spark of an idea into an essay that I could be proud of sharing. In no point while working with Saul have I felt like I didn’t have the attention I needed, and he was always very responsive with all of the edits. I That there were certain times where I (irresponsibly so) forgot about a scheduled meeting, but Saul was always very understanding and would gladly find another time to meet. His organized Google Drive folder and post-meeting notes were also essential to keeping me on track. Saul’s expertise and patience are unparalleled, and if I had to do it all over again—perish the thought—I wouldn’t hesitate for a second choosing to work with Saul.“
HG, Northwestern |
I started working with Saul in the fall of my junior year. He gave me valuable advice on building credentials that would help me reach my goals. He is always very encouraging but at the same time sets right expectations. He was extremely helpful throughout the application process. His organized folders, documents, and schedules helped me to be very productive and always stay on top of the deadlines. In addition, I truly appreciate his essay brainstorming and edits, which have made my writing much stronger and more personal.
— AC, UPenn Saul was probably the most helpful college counselor I could have ever asked for! He gave me tons of advice and edits, helped me stay on track for my deadlines, and most importantly, he made sure my essays stayed true to what I wanted to say. I truly think that my admissions process went well because I was able to present my voice the way I wanted it to be heard, thanks to Saul. — VP, UT Austin Engineering "I really appreciated Saul's helpful advice and organized timing regimen throughout the college application process -- it really kept me on track amongst also handling school and extracurriculars. He really boosted my essays to another level, which got me into some of my top schools!" RS, Rice |
Working with Saul was extremely helpful during my college application process. From compiling a list of potential colleges to apply to, revising and editing your essays, and just being extremely helpful overall answering any questions during the process, the whole process was just extremely smooth.
—ED, NYU Stern I loved that my ideas and thoughts stayed consistently present throughout my essays and were polished and refined into a final product that I was extremely proud of! —JL, Vanderbilt |
I appreciate the 'push' I got from college counseling, in terms of taking the extra step to make sure I was specific, showed a lot about myself, and make use of every word in the essays.
—VG, Princeton Saul made me feel so reassured and confident in the whole process. Going into applications, Barnard wasn't even on my radar, but after we discussed what I was looking for in a college, Saul introduced me to the school. It immediately became my first choice. His edits on my essays were also super insightful, and he always put emphasis on amplifying what I wanted to convey, rather than trying to influence the topics or tones of my essays. —JK, Barnard |
See what some students from past years have to say!
I truly don't think I would have been able to put together such a strong application without Saul's help. In my opinion, the most helpful part of this experience would be essay editing & brainstorming. I have really bad instincts when it comes to knowing whether an essay idea is good or bad... so Saul's advice in the brainstorming process was incredibly useful. Also, like many high school students, I'm personally insecure about sharing my writing (especially when I'm writing about myself) with other people, but Saul never made me feel bad about my writing at any point in this process. Even when I wrote something that was not good, he helped me turn it into an essay that I was confident to submit.
—LG, Princeton |
I so appreciated Saul's constant, unwavering moral support and endlessly insightful feedback. He was a perfect mix of encouraging me to let my own unique voice shine, while also gently, but firmly, guiding me back on track when I wandered off into the Shadow Realm™ for essays. I was very nervous about applying SCEA to Yale, but I think Saul's consistent support for me, our back-and-forth discussions of each essay, and his easygoing attitude helped me decide to send in the application. What differentiates Saul from other counselors is that he always is in support of what you want to say; he'll help you strengthen your own message and passion, as you want it to be reflected, instead of telling you what to write about. I genuinely value that, and I am so incredibly grateful for Saul's patience and support through this process; he was always open to texting and calling me, just to help me brainstorm and discuss ideas.
—SF, Yale |
It was extremely valuable for me. To begin with, I was quite behind on the college application process. Your counseling helped keep me on track and on a proper timeline so that I wouldn't burn out or fall behind on my applications or school work. In addition, simply having conversation with Saul was helpful in getting out and refining my ideas. All in all, working with Summit made this process so smooth and easy!

It was great! It was stressful at times, but I really liked setting deadlines for essays/applications to be done really early, as it forced me to be on top of everything (despite sleep) so I didn't have any of the "last minute stress." I also liked how you edited my essays; you were very hands-on and showed me a clear direction to go with my essays rather than slowly lead me on. Being with you for the past four years has been a great experience from the beginning to the end. Our monthly meetings were a healthy check in that made sure I stayed on a steady track to college and it reassured me that I am prepared for the college application process. Overall, thank you for everything and let's keep in touch in the future!
— AQ, Stanford It was super helpful and I truly believe that without your help I couldn't have gotten in! I think the most beneficial part of the process was finding activities that would help boost my resume and develop my interests. Help with writing the essays was also super great because I would never have known the right things to write about. — WD, Caltech |
Invaluable! Needed the guidance + deadlines to get through everything. Truly helped me with every bit of my college app process.
—TW, UC Berkeley EECS I struggle a lot with my writing, so that was my biggest worry going into the college application process. Through my college counseling experience, I found that I was able to get lots of help with structuring and organizing my thoughts in my essays as well as more generally whether I was going in the right direction with the content itself, which was extremely helpful. Apart from the application itself, I had lots of help in deciding what to do with my summer before senior year which ended up helping me increase the material to write my essays and support my interests that I wanted to be showcased in my application. — AW, Wash U St. Louis |
It was great! I got so much knowledge that I otherwise wouldn't have gotten about choosing colleges to apply to and how to apply to colleges. The essay and interview workshops were very helpful to make me prepared and do those well. We asked many questions, and they were always answered very well. We knew we could count on Saul if we were ever confused about something during the college application season, and that was the most valuable for us.
— AG, Harvard |
For me, Summit was most helpful in essay editing. I'm not the best writer, so Saul's expertise really enhanced my essays to another level. I enjoyed our in-person sessions, where I could get my questions answered and my essays edited on the spot. I particularly valued Saul's organization--from the pre-sorted Google Drive folder, weekly reminder emails about progress, and post-meeting notes which noted the essays I should be working on...
Accepted Princeton |
I tended to find myself drowning in my own thoughts throughout the college admissions process, but after every meeting I would feel motivated and have a clearer sense of what my next step should be.
E.H. -- Accepted Carnegie Mellon U Perfect experience! Two things I found extremely valuable were honesty and pressure. Honesty in that Saul didn't sugarcoat anything nor hide anything, something I found very insightful and in some way also motivated me. Pressure in that you can never really know how much work the college application process is before you experience it. The pressure Summit put on was stressful but it was 200% worth it because it spread out the work throughout the fall... As spring came, I realized how nicely my work was spread out and how much milder my workload was compared to my peers.
D.W., Accepted USC w/ Merit Scholarship Very helpful for navigating the complicated seas of college applications. Also very useful for figuring out the logistics on how to pick an interest and roll with it, and it ended up being a key part in my success within going about the college application process. It was surprisingly fun to look back at all of the cool things I've done in life and reflect them to colleges.
— TL, UC Berkeley |
I really like how systematic and organized the college application process became. It was much easier and less stressful to apply for college this way. Also, I got all the help I needed and felt like I had access to a lot of valuable resources. It couldn't have been better :)
-- Accepted UPenn Saul has been incredibly supportive throughout my college application process. I am not the best at time management, so his strict deadlines ensured that I stayed on track and ultimately allowed me to finish my applications much earlier than expected. Saul was also very receptive of my essay ideas and constantly gave creative suggestions. He always made sure my essays were edited many times before submitting. Overall, I am really thankful to have had his help in applying to college.
E.W., Accepted Carnegie Mellon U |
Loved the essay editing and deadline checks, really helped me stay on task!
S.Z., Accepted Stanford, MIT, Columbia I really like the way Summit counseling operates. It correlates well with my own learning/working style and makes college applications not only much easier but also stress-free. Thank you so much again!
C.L., Accepted UPenn I got every serviced that was promised/payed for in the package. Throughout the process, the counseling served to guide me rather than do things for me (compared to the horror stories of counselors who do everything down to writing entire essays), which for me was one of the most important aspects. I was guided toward the right direction in selecting colleges and writing essays without losing any sense of control or that yes it really is me making real decision regarding my applications.

Testimonials
Saul was phenomenal during this process, and I could not have gotten through this application season (or gotten into Harvard!) without him. As a writer himself, his essay edits were invaluable, and helped me tell my story in an incisive, reflective, and entertaining manner.
The thing I appreciated the most about Saul's approach to the college application process is that he, unlike many other college counseling companies, seeks to emphasize you as an individual. Of course, college admissions is inherently a competitive process, especially in the Bay Area. Many of my friends who went to other counseling companies were told that they weren't "good enough" for the colleges they wished to attend, and were advised to modify their application in some way (ex - "major hopping" - choosing a major that's less selective than the one they're truly interested in to have a higher chance of getting in). During the process, I was hearing a lot of rumors like this and admittedly got nervous too - maybe my application wasn't good enough to get into my relatively selective STEM major of choice - and even considered switching to a less selective major.
However, a constant narrative from Saul through this process was that in order to convince colleges that they want you, YOU have to be confident in yourself and genuinely believe that you're good enough. It's really hard to fake enthusiasm about a major you don't like, or pretend to be a person you're not! Saul allows you to believe in yourself, bringing your personality and your goals to shine on the page. Additionally, he doesn't treat you like just a client at Summit, but rather seeks to have genuine conversations with you as a person. He was always available by text when I had last minute questions, and offered some great advice about my recs.
I think Saul's approach to the process inspires confidence in who you are as both an applicant and a person, and that enabled me to reflect more deeply during the essay writing process, discover more about my goals and aspirations, and ultimately, get into my dream school!

Saul is a very genuine counselor, who wants the best for the student's own future and fit. some counselors give off a more cynical and aggressive feel, where they know everything and will craft you into the "perfect applicant". that is unrealistic and also quite overstepping, because college is just another step of your life that shouldn't be determined by someone else. instead, think of it as a learning experience, where counselors should be there to help guide and bring out the applicant's best qualities and boost confidence in themselves that can be applied in future situations throughout life. they should not be the ones to determine who you should be and how to mold you so that an institution will accept you. !!!! Saul is also more of a good mentor to talk about things that aren't just college!
For me, Summit was most helpful in essay editing. I'm not the best writer, so Saul's expertise really enhanced my essays to another level. He would leave comments on my documents to help me reflect further on details I could add to my essays. I enjoyed our in-person sessions, where I could get my questions answered and my essays edited on the spot. I particularly valued Saul's organization--from the pre-sorted Google Drive folder, weekly reminder emails about progress, and post-meeting notes which noted the essays I should be working on now and next. By following Saul's schedule, I had no trouble finishing my essays weeks before the deadlines.
Invaluable! Needed the guidance + deadlines to get through everything. Truly helped me with every bit of my college app process.
My overall experience at Summit was simply fantastic. The timeline was perfect for me: I was able to finish all of my applications well ahead of time, so I didn't have to rush all of my essays out during winter break. Starting early in April, I had the entire summer at my disposal to consult Saul and draft essays. In addition, Saul helped recommend ideas, but always took my opinions into account. Therefore, I felt that my personality as well as the content shone through in my essays. Finally, as a first child, my parents and I had no experience whatsoever with the college application process. Saul was always there to answer any questions we had, whether through email, text, phone, or in-person.
I found Saul's help in the essay process, from brainstorming to editing, to be invaluable. Not only were my essays higher quality in the end, I saved myself much time and stress. In addition, with his guidance in filling out applications and pacing, I was so glad to be done by winter break!
Summit really helped me balance my own thoughts and ideas with a successful essay, so that my own personality shone through. The timeline for writing essays was also extremely helpful: I could enjoy my winter break instead of sitting at home and grinding out essays.
At its most fundamental level, Summit Admissions Counseling makes sure you never walk through this process alone. It's assuring to know that your worries will have answers. It's calming to know that your writing will be polished. Most importantly, it's comforting to know that Summit knows how to help.
Saul was invaluable in organizing my deadlines and keeping me on top of my work. Additionally, he showed me summer program opportunities and helped me get into a great research program. He also made the college application process much less stressful for me, and especially my parents!
It was an invaluable experience that will help you keep the college application process organized.
Thank you so much for all the help you gave me during the college application season! I'm very glad to say that I've gotten into all the UCs, as well as Carnegie Mellon, Rice, and Dartmouth! It was a difficult application season, and I definitely wouldn't have been able to get through it without your advice and all the editing and ideas you gave me for writing the essays! If I hadn't had the opportunity to work with you, the quality and subject of my essays would have suffered terribly.
I LIKED HOW YOU GAVE ME THE FREEDOM TO SHAPE MY OWN APPS AND BE CREATIVE WITH THE PROMPTS. I FEEL LIKE THE PERSON THAT CAME ACROSS IN MY APPS TO ADMISSION OFFICERS IS VERY MUCH ME AND IT WASN'T FAKED OR CONTRIVED.
V__ got all the top schools he wanted. I could not believe it. I really appreciate your help.
I think K__ has told you that she got admitted to UPenn! Now it is true, but somehow it is hard to believe it! We are trying to decide between Berkeley and UPenn. We really appreciate all your hard work and dedication!
Without the help I got, my essays would be everywhere and not make very much sense.
The help you get on essays is invaluable. Saul helps you throughout the entire application process, which significantly reduced my stress about colleges.
Summit isn't just about writing essays, but also learning valuable life skills.
You get a very different vibe from Summit than you do from places like ___ or ___ *, here Saul actually cares about your success and are working with someone who genuinely cares for the creativity and quality of work instead of just cranking essays out. I am very happy that I chose Summit instead of another college counseling service because I felt like Saul wanted to show the best in me, and not make me out to be someone else I was not. I think this is the most genuine approach that any college counselor has, and I am very appreciative of it. Looking back, I actually had fun writing my college apps and I think it's because of Saul's approach.

When your other friends tell you about how they still have so many supplemental essays left to write, you'll feel good that Saul drove you so hard to complete them so early. You'll be able to enjoy your winter break stress-free without any applications left.
I found Saul's input on essay editing and brainstorming to be very valuable. Also, the emphasis on timely completion kept me on schedule and helped reduce stress.
Compared to my friends who go to other college counselors, I found that I had was a lot ahead of them in writing applications. The timeline Summit provides is really helpful and keeps you on track so that you won't be cramming in to finish a bunch of schools near the deadline. I found that I was also able to focus a lot on getting good grades and doing well for finals because I had finished my applications so early... I would always write down lists of questions that I would have while writing or filling out applications to ask either in meetings or through email. It feels really good and reassuring to have someone who will help you answer these questions because I always felt like I was doing something wrong when I didn't ask questions.
From helping me start essays to pacing me to editing, Saul's help has been invaluable throughout my college application process. Without his guidance, I think it's safe to say I would not have finished my applications happily and on time.
I think the most useful part of working with Summit on my apps was the fact that my mother did not have to worry about the whole college application process. She was able to feel confident in my apps without having to attend every meeting and I think that meant the most to me and her. Thank you for alleviating the stress on my family as well as myself this college app season, Saul, and for making the college app season not too bad :)
I had a much more pleasant college applying process than I had thought, and I think a lot of it was because I finished a lot of applications early on. I thought your email reminders and deadlines really really helped me.
Thanks Saul, you made this painful process a lot better!
Thanks for communicating so much, your continuous email reminders were very good at prioritizing and organizing college applications.
SAUL WAS INCREDIBLY HELPFUL WITH EVERY STEP OF THE COLLEGE ADMISSIONS PROCESS. AS A CHRONIC PROCRASTINATOR, I CAN SAY WITH 100% CONVICTION THAT WITHOUT SAUL SETTING DEADLINES FOR ME AND TELLING ME WHAT TO DO, I WOULD STILL BE WORKING ON MY ESSAYS. AS IT IS, I AM LYING IN BED BINGE-WATCHING GAME OF THRONES OVER MY CHRISTMAS BREAK WHILE MY FRIENDS ARE IN COFFEE SHOPS HURRIEDLY WRITING ESSAYS TWO DAYS BEFORE THE DEADLINE. SAUL HELPED ME PICK OUT THE COLLEGES I APPLIED TO (HALF OF WHICH I WOULDN'T HAVE KNOWN EXISTED IF NOT FOR HIM), HELPED ME FILL OUT THE TEDIOUS AMOUNT OF INFORMATION ASKED FOR IN THE UC AND COMMON APPS, AND ALWAYS ANSWERED MY PANICKED TEXTS/EMAILS EXTREMELY QUICKLY, EVEN PAST MIDNIGHT ON A SATURDAY NIGHT/SUNDAY MORNING.
I came to Summit based on a strong referral. Likewise I would make a positive recommendation.
English/writing has always been one of my harder subjects. I have always had difficulty thinking of ideas and putting them down on paper. With the help I received, I had somewhere to start and build off of which helped me gather my ideas. Also, my school doesn't offer anything college related, my counselors are not the most available of people, and, as the oldest kid, my family has never been through the application process before. At the beginning I had no idea what I was doing or what needed to be in a essay, but with the guidance and editing I got I feel like my essays were a thousand times better than what I could have managed on my own.
